As Peter Pan prepares to take flight (with the help of Tinkerbell’s pixie dust, of course), many are scratching their heads at NBC’s decision to cast Girls star Allison Williams in the title role.
Brian Williams‘ daughter, 26, will play the boy who never grew up in the live musical, which will air Thursday, Dec. 4, following the success of 2013’s The Sound of Music Live! starring Carrie Underwood and Stephen Moyer.
“Yup. Allison Williams is MOTHERF–KING PETER PAN!!!,” Girls costar and creator Lena Dunham tweeted on Wednesday, July 30. “Allison is about to undertake one of the greatest drag roles in history and we are so proud we could burst. She will slay.”
But can the HBO actress even sing? Yes!
Though many may remember her awkward performances as Marnie on Girls, Williams is a veteran performer who records her own YouTube covers of hit songs like Kesha‘s “TiK ToK” and High School Musical‘s “Breaking Free.”
In 2010, she performed a mash-up of the eden ahbez song “Nature Boy” set to RJD2’s “A Beautiful Mine,” which is the theme song to AMC’s hit drama Mad Men. Watch the clip of her singing above, and tell Us if you think she’ll make a good Peter Pan! ?
