History is repeating itself in true Hollywood fashion. In a trailer for American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, released on Wednesday, Dec. 2, FX revisits the so-called “Trial of the Century” — with a few familiar faces.
The first episode of the upcoming FX series, which will reimagine high-profile court cases, is helmed by American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy, and has called upon the likes of Selma Blair, David Schwimmer, John Travolta, and Cuba Gooding Jr. to flesh out the narrative.
Blair, 43, plays Kardashian momager Kris Jenner in the episode, while Friends alum Schwimmer, 49, plays Jenner’s late husband, Robert Kardashian. Travolta, 61, portrays defense lawyer Robert Shapiro, and Gooding Jr. takes on defendant and former football star Simpson.
In the minute-long trailer, all the actors look very intense as they recreate scenes of the now-infamous court case, in which Simpson was accused of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Lyle Goldman. He was eventually acquitted after more than eight months on trial.
“You’re going to say this case is all about race?” one character asks Travolta’s Shapiro.
“Yes, because it is,” Travolta replies.
In another pivotal scene, Gooding Jr. as Simpson declares, “I’m not black, I’m O.J.!”
The trailer also reveals a recreation of the historic white Bronco police chase, as well as several intense confrontations between Schwimmer’s Kardashian and Blair’s Jenner.
Earlier this year, Blair opened up to Us Weekly about her impressions of the real-life Kardashian-Jenner matriarch.
“I found her to be endearing and extremely intelligent and warm and generous,” Blair told Us. “I don’t have enough good things to say about her. I thought she was wonderful. I don’t think I knew just how amazingly likable she is and how giving.”
