Ryan Murphy had a farm, E-I-E-I-NOOOOOOOOO! With a corn field here and a chainsaw there, American Horror Story let loose a handful of tantalizing teasers for its sixth season on Wednesday, July 27 — and from the looks of it, FX’s anthology horror series will be reaping inspiration from quite the collection of classic screamers.
The collection of teeny-tiny videos were released via Snapchat, and though they offer very little concrete information (except for promoting the premiere date, September 14), they give the show’s fanbase plenty of references to chew on. Here’s everything we spotted.
I Saw the Corn
American Horror Story has taken us from the deep South to L.A., but this season’s setting looks like a dispatch from the heartland — where an ominous ramshackle farmhouse sits surrounded by a field of endless, creepy, rustling corn. Anyone who’s ever seen the cult horror classic Children of the Corn knows that there’s no more terrifying crop in the world.
Stop, Hey, What’s That Sound?
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre maniac known as Leatherface doesn’t make an appearance, but we definitely caught an earful of his signature power tool. In a house surrounded by all corn and no trees, what might this unseen person be doing with a chainsaw? Hint: NOTHING GOOD.
The People Under the Stairs
In another teaser, a panicked barefoot woman (whose face we never see) is fleeing down a creepy lightless staircase — from which disembodied hands keep reaching out to grab her ankles. In addition to containing a clear homage to Wes Craven–directed The People Under the Stairs, it looks like AHS will be going back to its season 1 roots this time with an all-American haunted house story.
The Cradle Will Rock
What kind of kiddo sleeps under a creepy mobile made of super-sharp, highly dangerous farming implements? The kind with claws for hands, as we saw in yet another teaser video. Horror aficionados will no doubt recognize the demon baby trope from films like Rosemary’s Baby, but American Horror Story fans remember that the show has dabbled before with its own share of evil-infant drama, from the Countess’ kiddo last season (poor Bartholomew!), to the Frankensteined Infantata who lurked in the basement of Murder House, to the latex-wearing, spectre-spawned twins born to Vivian (Connie Britton) that same season. Might this be the year we catch up with Viv’s surviving son?
Tell Us: What clues do you catch in the season 6 teasers?
American Horror Story season 6 premieres on FX Wednesday, September 14, at 10 p.m. ET.
