Anne Hathaway's charm offensive continues in full force! The Oscar winner turned up on The Daily Show Wednesday, Jan. 21 to promote her upcoming flick, Song One, but she couldn't help but laugh when describing its plot to Jon Stewart.
Starting her synopsis innocently enough, Hathaway, 32, shared how her anthropologist character's brother (Ben Rosenfield) drops out of college and (spoiler alert!) meets an unfortunate fate by the end of the film.
"Her little brother, who is 19, calls her up and says 'I'm dropping out of college to become a musician,' and she doesn't react very well. And then they haven’t spoken for six months and then he gets hit by a car and is in a coma," Hathaway deadpanned, before she and the Comedy Central host dissolved into giggles and Stewart nearly fell off his chair.
Struggling to regain her composure, Hathaway told Stewart the plot point has been a familiar subject during her press tour. "A journalist today told me when that scene came on, he fell off his treadmill," Hathaway said, fighting through giggles.
Having also pre-screened the film, Stewart tried to reign in the interview when praising Hathaway, but to no avail. "It's a very serious and in-depth exploration of family dynamics, and I appreciated the work you did in it as a producer and an actress," he said, as Hathaway nearly cried with laughter.
