Raise a glass and frolic in a hail of rose petals because a whopping three couples got engaged during the Tuesday, September 6, episode of Bachelor in Paradise! The campy ABC reality show managed to reach peak romance and peak drama during the supertense finale, thanks to one couple sharing a tearful goodbye, and another couple having second thoughts. Get all the romantic details below!
Josh and Amanda’s Relationship Status: Engaged
Josh Murray made it pretty clear that he wasn’t going to propose to Amanda Stanton without approval from his mom, so ABC went ahead and invited her to Paradise for a meet-and-greet. And guys? Mama Murray loved Amanda — though she seemed hesitant about her son rushing into an engagement, saying, “I do caution about taking time because we know the children still aren’t here, and that’s a whole other dynamic.”
Yeah, good point, Josh’s mom. You’d think ABC would have flown Amanda’s kids out to meet their future dad, but apparently not. Either way, Josh ended up popping the question to Amanda after she said, “The thought of welcoming you into our little family makes my heart so full.”
“You are the sweetest, kindest, most loving, generous woman that I have ever met,” Josh mused while crying hysterically. “I’m so blessed to spend the rest of my life with you, so Amanda, my love, will you marry me?”
Aww! You’d better believe she said yes! Pizza for everyone!
Carly and Evan Relationship Status: Engaged
Carly Waddell and Evan Bass are gearing up for a walk down the aisle! After waking up in the fantasy suite and being more in love than ever, Evan popped the question to the girl of his dreams. But not before reciting this poem: “I fell in love with a girl named Carly. She’s got me chilling on the beach like a guy named Marley. She’s gluten-free, and that includes barley. And that’s OK … S‑‑t.” #Shakespeare.
So what was Evan’s proposal like? Basically an explosion of romance and weirdness, that’s what. “Carly, our life in Paradise has been nothing short of epic,” he began. “My love for you has only gotten stronger. And the love I feel from you is the most amazing, inexplicable, mind-blowing thing that I just never in a million years thought I would get. I feel like my heart beats to your soul. I want my kids to see a love like we have, and I want them to know an amazing woman like you are. Carly, I wanna chase after the fairy tales, and go on all of the adventures, and find all of the interesting things in this world to explore.… I wanna start a life with you. I want you to be my wife. Carly Waddell, will you freaking marry me?”
Her answer? Yes, obviously. Who wouldn’t want to be the wife of an erectile dysfunction specialist?
Nick and Jen Status: So Over
Poor Jen Saviano! This loved-up girl woke up in the fantasy suite and told cameras that she has “never felt closer” to Nick Viall. But despite Nick visiting Neil Lane to pick out a ring, he ditched their relationship at the final hour.
“I felt like I wanted to say I was in love with you, but something in my heart said I can’t,” Nick explained while sobbing. “And I feel like sometimes you wish you could tell your heart what to do. And if I could, I would tell it to choose you. I just feel like something’s telling me to say goodbye. I’m so sorry. My biggest fear is that I’m gonna regret it. I just feel like you deserve better than me.”
Jen’s response? She told cameras, “He just threw away something that could have been great. It makes no sense. I’m mad at him. I just, I don’t get it.” Meanwhile, Nick made a pitch for Bachelor by musing, “The scary part is feeling like I’m incapable of saying I love you to anyone.”
Side-eyes. And can we please talk about how Neil Lane told Nick, “How many times am I gonna see you again” upon laying eyes on him? Living for that shade!
Lace and Grant Status: Engaged (But It Took a While …)
Despite getting #Grace tattooed on their bodies the day before, Grant Kemp and Lace Morris woke up in a bad place. “I feel very weird in a bad way, ” Grant said. “I think last night I went to bed with a lot of unanswered questions. There’s just certain little things you talk to someone about before you get engaged.” He also told Lace, “There’s a chance I’m not gonna propose to you right now because we need more time.” Home Alone face!
It’s unclear exactly what happened in the fantasy suite, but Lace was in panic mode. “Why did we get tattoos if you’re just going to wake up the next morning and question whether we should get engaged or not?” she said. “Now I feel like I don’t trust our relationship anymore.”
Fortunately, Grant realized that yes, it is a great idea to get engaged on national TV, and popped the question to his girlfriend after Lace mused, “I love you, Grant Kemp, but I love Grace more.” Get ready for cuteness:
“I know we left off unsure of things, and the past 24 hours have been a whirlwind of emotions,” Grant said. “I know that the conversation that we had was about things that weren’t answered, but sometimes time is what we need to get those answers.… You make me feel like I can be myself. When I look at you, there’s no way that I would not want you in my life. I love you when you’re happy, I love you when you’re stubborn, I love you when you’re sad, I even love you when you’re screaming at me — but mostly, I love you when you’re Lace.… Lace, will you marry me?” Annnd, cue everyone weeping.
Spoiler alert: She said yes. Could this season of Bachelor in Paradise be more of a win? [Chandler Bing’s voice.]
