Beyoncé and Jay-Z are getting the last laugh.
The Carters surprise-released their first collaboration in seven years, a remix of Beyoncé’s song “Morning Dew (Donk),” on Wednesday, August 5, which features a new verse that fires back at their social media trolls.
“If you ain’t riding for the gang, shut the f*** up,” Jay-Z, 56, raps before Beyoncé, 44, repeats, “Shut the f*** up.”
Over a sample of The Isley Brothers’ iconic track “Between the Sheets,” Jay-Z continues, “What you n****s say? You know you love us / Talkin’ reckless on the set / They only hate us on the ‘net / You n****s tweet a lot / All you do is twit / Pop it on the pods, but you ain’t doing s***.”
He concludes his verse with the lyrics, “We just making love / We just gettin’ rich / Y’all keep doin’ that / We keep doin’ this.” (Jay-Z has a net worth of $2.8 billion, while Forbes named Beyoncé a billionaire last year.)
Beyoncé’s solo version of “Morning Dew (Donk)” serves as the first single for the upcoming 20th anniversary edition of her second album, B’Day, which she has otherwise kept tightly under wraps. She originally recorded the song for her groundbreaking 2013 visual album, Beyoncé, but it did not make the final tracklist. A demo, simply titled “Donk,” leaked online in 2023 and went viral on TikTok before Queen Bey released the official, reworked version on July 4.
In addition to the Jay-Z remix, Beyoncé dropped an acoustic mix of the Pharrell Williams-produced track on Wednesday, which is notably four minutes and 44 seconds long. Die-hard members of the Beyhive know that four is the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer’s favorite number, as she was born on September 4 and Jay-Z’s birthday is December 4. The “99 Problems” rapper has also taken a liking to the digit over the years, even naming his 2017 album 4:44.
The “Morning Dew (Donk)” remix marks Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s first collaboration since “Mood 4 Eva,” which appeared on her 2019 Lion King soundtrack companion album, The Gift. The couple previously worked together on hit songs including 2002’s “’03 Bonnie & Clyde,” 2003’s “Crazy in Love,” 2006’s “Déjà Vu” and 2013’s “Drunk in Love” and “Part II (On the Run).” They also released a joint album, Everything Is Love, under the name The Carters in 2018. Beyoncé and Jay-Z have been married since 2008 and share three children: 14-year-old daughter Blue Ivy and 9-year-old twins Rumi and Sir.
