Not only was Barrett Pfeiffer put on the block after targeting the icons but several of his clothing items got lost in the Big Brother house.
“You have no idea what it’s like to not only be on the block, be a have not, and on top of that, like lose your entire identity in your clothing. Absolutely, that affected me,” Barrett, 27, exclusively told Us on Friday, September 18, following his eviction from season 28. “I am not who I am without my clothes and my stuff.”
The show’s audience saw during the Thursday, September 17, episode that Barrett was reunited with his missing items — but live feeders watched Barrett struggle for a week without his items.
The previous week, Barrett was the Head of Household (HoH). The HoH has a lot of duties like putting up fellow houseguests for eviction but also get multiple perks including their own bedroom, private bathroom and a gift basket filled with special treats, mementos from home, a CD of their choosing and more. The HoH can also send their clothes out to get washed rather than doing laundry in the house themselves.
Barrett ultimately opted to use the service but the clothes mysteriously went missing. While waiting for his wardrobe, Barrett was given alternate clothing provided by the Big Brother production team. While he was clothed, Barrett admitted he didn’t feel like himself — affecting his morale in the game as he was put on the block by Yash Patel.
“It’s like putting on a work uniform. I felt naked. I had clothes on, but I still felt naked, like in a way, personality wise. Like it was draining to not,” he explained. “I feel like I was in my pink camo zip up jacket and have my bandana shorts on. Like that stuff changes you when you don’t have it. Especially [when] you need all the comfort you can in the Big Brother house. So certainly I was a different person entirely without them.”
Prior to his eviction, Barrett made the biggest move of the game but successfully getting a reality TV icon out. While he had his eyes set on Survivor’s Dee Valladares or Rick Devens being evicted, the house voted to evict Big Brother 26 alum Angela Murray.
“Rick Devens said it best, ‘You may only get one chance at an HoH, and you don’t know what your next chance is going to be.’ So, that was a lot of my mindset going into it,” Barrett told Us. “I knew in this game I wanted to take big risks and I wanted to make big moves when I got the opportunity.”
Barrett was initially aligned with Dee, Devens, Angela and Drew Campbell but the jumbotron engineer felt it was “time” to betray his alliance with the hope of beefing up his game résumé.
“I spent a long time in this game laying low, waiting for my chance. And I felt like, especially after Mallory [Aurichio] went home, my entire game changed from being ‘I am icon strong, I’m crossover strong. To then being, I need to get all of these newbies together to form a new alliance to go against the icons.’ I felt like that was going to be a new fun path for me,” he explained. “So I felt very confident with the timing of my move, and especially just being top eight at that point, there were only three people outside of the crossover to even nominate, and I saw an opportunity to take that shot and try to form something new with the non icons in place.”
Both Dee and Devens survived the eviction and vowed vengeance on Barrett in the game — which they ultimately got. Despite being close with them once, Barrett knew their working relationship would never be the same after he targeted them.
“I think there may have been a path to align with maybe one of Dee [or] Devens after Angela’s eviction. More likely Devens,” he said. “But at the same time, Dee and Devens very made it very clear that Yash and Taylor [Brown] were the new Drew and Barrett in their eyes with that vote and how they socialized that next week during Yash’s HoH.”
