Hit Us baby one more time! Britney Spears marked the 16th anniversary of her very first single, “…Baby One More Time,” on Tuesday, Sept. 30, remembering its release on Instagram.
“Happy sweet 16 to ‘Baby One More Time’!” the pop princess, 32, wrote alongside the old cover featuring her younger self. “Where did the time go!? Thx to my fans for supporting me since my 1st single #Happy16thBirthdayBOMT.”
Spears was 16 years old when her debut single was released on Sept. 30, 1998. The all new Mickey Mouse Club alum quickly became an international pop sensation, especially following the release of her song’s music video, which featured her in a scantily-clad Catholic schoolgirl-inspired outfit. (Fun fact: Spears’ cousin Chad Spears, who was an Abercrombie & Fitch model at the time, played her love interest in the video.)
“…Baby One More Time” went on to become a number one hit in the U.S. and in countries across the world, selling over 10 million copies. Her eponymous album also went 14-times platinum and has sold over 30 million copies internationally.
Since her breakout moment in 1998, the Louisiana native has released eight studio albums and 42 singles. According to the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), Spears is among the ten top-selling female artists in the U.S. She has sold over 100 million albums worldwide throughout her career. Her two-year residency at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas was recently extended through 2017.
