Chicago Med’s Hannah Asher and Dean Archer are fully embracing their roles as new parents during season 12 — but will their collaborative relationship turn romantic?

“The coparenting is going really well,” Jessy Schram exclusively told Us on Tuesday, October 6, of Hannah’s dynamic with Archer (Steven Weber) after welcoming their baby girl, Mabel, last season. “Hannah definitely appreciates how intentional Dean is being and really appreciates having a partner.”

Schram, 40, noted that Archer is “incredibly involved” and he’s “definitely not just putting this all on Hannah” so coparenting is “going pretty smooth” — so far.

During the May season 11 finale, Hannah gave birth to her and Archer’s daughter but they were not romantically together.

Once both baby and mom were safe — an armed man who caused the hospital to go into lockdown during the birth — Archer confessed to Hannah that he “loved” her, but she didn’t say it back.

When Chicago Med returned on Wednesday, October 7, Hannah came to visit Archer at work and bring him food with their baby while still on maternity leave.

While Hannah told the nurses that she and Archer were living together at her apartment, she joked there wasn’t time to be coparents with “benefits.”

“We’re filming in Hannah’s apartment later this afternoon, so we will get to see a little bit of the home life dynamic,” Schram revealed to Us. “We will visit, but mainly, you know, we’re sticking to the hospital and seeing what that life is, and bringing Mabel in as much as possible at this moment.”

Schram also teased that Hannah’s feelings toward Archer could change with time, especially when he’s such a good father.

“There’s definitely the possibility that they could [fall in love],” she said. “The baby’s 3 months old at this point. As time only keeps growing and as things are going well, I think that that creates more comfortability. It creates more dependence.”

The actress noted, “They definitely have a swing in how they’re doing things at this moment in time. So when things feel comfortable, things can feel very lovely.”

Schram reiterated that at the start of season 14, “Things are really going great in the coparenting world, and Hannah has a deep appreciation for Dean, and we’ll just have to see what that looks like” moving forward.

The Hallmark star added that Hannah will have her own ups and downs this season as she navigates being a “mama bear” and her own family demons.

“I think what I’m seeing as a trend with her right now, which I’m really adoring and kind of loving, is Hannah’s not able to mask as much now,” Schram explained. “Now that she’s a mom, she doesn’t care as much about putting on [a brave face]. I think that we see a little bit more about how Hannah’s feeling a little bit more openly, and I think that that’s really fun.”

As Hannah leans into motherhood, Schram said her fractured relationship with sister Lizzy (Erin Anderson), who asked her to be a surrogate before she got pregnant with Mabel, could become more apparent.

“I think that the most important relationship and the biggest hole in Hannah’s life is definitely Lizzy,” Schram revealed. “There’s definitely a chance that we could expect to explore that a little bit more now that the baby’s born. And I’m really curious to see how that happens, or if there’s even an introduction if Lizzy allows that.”

Chicago Med airs on NBC Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
