If you’ve been counting down until Jinger Duggar‘s engagement on Counting On — well, you’ll have to count a little longer. Instead of getting to the business of Jeremy Vuolo popping the question, the Tuesday, October 4, episode of the family-friendly TLC show took a trip down memory lane to remind fans of all of the engagements that came before, and speculate about which eligible Duggar child might be next.
In the present day, Jinger was busy traveling to meet up with Jeremy in Philadelphia. Because she needed a chaperone, and because the Duggars basically always travel in packs, her mother, Michelle, was along for the ride, as were Jessa Duggar and son Spurgeon. The trip got off to a rocky start, however, when their flight was delayed by an hour, which cut their connecting flight really close.
As Jessa nursed her son, Jinger worried that Jeremy would have to travel on to Philadelphia without her. Seeing as she was so insanely in love, this possibility was almost unthinkable to her.
The Engagements That Came Before
After we learned some tips from various Duggar boys, and the boys who married some of the Duggar girls, about how to survive courting, the show re-aired the engagements of Jessa and Jill. (ICYMI, Jessa got engaged close to home inside a local church, and Jill got engaged in front of a fountain after being serenaded by some local musicians with a song about her courtship with Derick Dillard.)
Jeremy also offered his thoughts on courtship in general, saying it’s important to be considerate of what the girl’s father is going through as his daughter prepares to leave to marry. “Here’s this man who’s poured his life out to raise this girl,” he argued, saying “part of being a man” was “being face-to-face with another man and asking for his daughter.” (It’s safe to say Jeremy meant asking to court his daughter, and not just hand her over.)
Speculation About Who Might Get Engaged Next
Throughout the show, producers interviewed various Duggar kids about each other and what they might look for in a mate. John David and Joseph in particular got a lot of air time. In fact, their segments felt a bit like personal ads for the two young men.
Jessa praised John David for having so many life skills, and brother-in-law Derick said he was very thoughtful. Jana said she hoped whoever John David married would be a “good girl” who she could call her best friend.
Joseph was described as a “hard worker” and a “very caring person,” and footage was aired showing him in training at the Alert Academy, which looked vaguely militant in nature but was apparently a search-and-rescue school. Jill described him as “sweet” and “caring,” and Joseph finished up the segment by saying he’s looking for a mate “who loves God first and foremost.” Just something to keep in mind if you’re in the market to marry a Duggar.
Jeremy Shows His Parents the Ring
Despite the travel delays, Jinger, Jeremy and the rest of the Duggar gang did make it to Philly. As evidence that if viewers stick with it, they will eventually see Jeremy and Jinger get married, Jeremy showed his parents the ring after Jinger and her mom had gone to sleep. “Oh, that is so beautiful!” his mother cooed. “It’s so delicate. It’s precious.” She seemed confident she knew how things would turn out. “She’s gonna love it. She’s gonna say yes,” his mom added.
“The goal of this trip is for Jinger to meet all of Jeremy’s relatives who live up in the Northeast,” Jessa reported. “The secret goal is that Jeremy is going to propose to her!” It’s hardly a secret, but it will be rewarding to watch when it finally airs.
