David Letterman’s Final Late Show Entrance: Watch the Standing Ovation

It’s the end of an era! David Letterman took the stage at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City on May 20 for his final night hosting the Late Show on CBS. As expected, his entrance, which you can watch above, was met with raucous applause.

Bandleader Paul Shaffer, clad in an amazing black sequined suit, cued the entrance as Letterman sprinted across the stage, hid for a minute, then finally walked in front of his adoring audience.

Letterman’s final show will include a musical performance from one of his favorite bands, the Foo Fighters, and plenty surprise guests who have visited his couch many times over the past 23 years.

CBS promised “an hour filled with surprises and memorable highlights” for the last episode, with many of Letterman’s friends in attendance. Stephen Colbert will take over Late Show hosting duties later in 2015.
