Enrique Iglesias is in serious need of a hero, baby, to kiss away the pain. The Spanish singer, 40, requires surgery on his hand after he suffered a bloody accident with a drone this past weekend.
Iglesias' rep released a statement to the Associated Press on Monday, June 1, confirming the star's treatment plan after he injured himself in the middle of a concert in Tijuana, Mexico, on Saturday, May 30.
"Thank you to all for your concern and good wishes," the star's rep said in a statement to the AP. "Enrique is currently undergoing reconstructive hand surgery today. Enrique will resume his tour July 3rd in Mexico City. We appreciate all your wishes and prayers."
The "Bailamos" singer proved that the show must go on in the immediate moments following the incident. Iglesias was playing to a packed crowd at Tijuana's Plaza de Toros de Playas for the latest stop on his ongoing international Sex and Love Tour, when he got on the wrong side of the flying object.
Iglesias let the drone fly to incorporate his viewpoint into the show, but when he went to grasp onto it, the machine cut into his hand, leaving it bloody and severely injured. He continued to perform after the accident, singing his hits to the crowd of thousands.
The unfortunate injury fell right before the star took a scheduled brief hiatus from his tour. Iglesias will return on his expected date of July 3, playing shows in Mexico City before departing for his native Spain, and continuing on in Monaco, Turkey, and Curaçao.
The concert series, which kicked off more than a year ago, is in promotion of Iglesias' tenth studio album, Sex and Love. The record, which features collaborations with Pitbull, Flo Rida, and Sean Paul, climbed the charts following its March 2014 release.
