Ginny & Georgia introduced a shocking baby twist — yet halfway into season 4, the cast was still in the dark on whether Paul or Joe is the father of Georgia’s child.
“We had heard rumors but nobody was really sure about this baby thing — and then we watched the season,” Scott Porter, who plays Paul, exclusively told Us Weekly at the MPTF NextGen Summer Party, which was presented by Delta Air Lines and Waymo, on Sunday, May 31, about the initial reveal at the end of season 3.
Going into season 4, Porter was just as unaware.
“We didn’t know that was actually being shot so Raymond Ablack and I — when we find out — we were like, ‘Oh wait, is it you or is it me?’ We had no idea. We still halfway through the [upcoming] season had no idea [who the dad is],” he continued. “Because Sarah Lampert and our entire very, very talented writing staff were going back and forth on what is best for these characters and what makes great TV and which one is which and which one rules the day for us.”
Off screen, Porter and Ablack are the “best of friends,” adding, “But on screen this year, we are challenged in a huge, huge way and it was a lot of fun. I can’t wait for folks to be able to see it.”
Ginny & Georgia, which premiered in 2021, follows a young single mother who moves her family to a new home in an attempt to outrun her past. The Netflix series stars Porter, Brianne Howey, Antonia Gentry, Diesel La Torraca, Felix Mallard, Sara Waisglass and Ablack.

While Porter couldn’t reveal much about what comes next, he teased that season 4 is focused on growth.
“A lot of characters have a lot of questions to ask themselves and find themselves in situations where they need to change. They really need to honestly look at their reflection and figure out what that next step is for themselves,” he told Us. “I think the audience has grown with us over the years and this season will do the exact same thing. It’s really going to force people to stretch their opinions, their thoughts about the show and the characters within.”
Porter reassured Us that fans “shouldn’t” be worried about what comes next — but the characters “definitely” should.
“The fans who have been with us understand that we are full of jaw-dropping moments, cliffhangers, big swings and we do that. We double down on that this season, we triple down on that this season, actually,” he said. “It’s not so much about worrying about things as it is about being able to look at characters as they morph and change and go on that journey with us.”
Porter continued, “Do I know what the cliffhanger from season four is? Oh yeah, I do. It’s the biggest one yet. It is going to be wild — I promise you that.”
Ginny & Georgia is currently streaming on Netflix.
