And baby makes three? The Thursday, February 25, episode of Grey’s Anatomy provided a jaw-dropping turn of events as Jackson (Jesse Williams) served April (Sarah Drew) with divorce paperwork just before she revealed to Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) that she is pregnant. And it appears that the ABC medical drama’s story line will continue surprising fans.
In a Variety interview published just after the episode aired on Thursday, Drew, 35, revealed that the shocking twist was just the start of a pivotal path for the up-and-down couple.
“It’s really the beginning of a whole lot of stories that burst out of it in the next eight or nine episodes,” Drew said. “When, if and how she tells Jackson is a subject that is going to be explored in the next few episodes.”
Drew acknowledged that April never says outright in the episode that Jackson is the father, but the Mad Men alum can’t see it being anyone else’s.
“They’ve been sleeping together a bunch because they’ve been going to counseling for, like, four weeks, and they’ve been sleeping together during a lot of the counseling,” she said. “I can’t imagine April sleeping with Jackson, fighting for her marriage, going to marriage counseling, all while sleeping with some other guy.”
In the actress’ opinion, the pregnancy came at the perfect time for her character: “She’s not going to let herself wallow in pain because she has this great joy and great gift and great love that she needs to focus on now. That kind of saves her in this moment.”
Drew, who doesn’t think that the couple will call off the divorce due to the bun in her oven, promises that viewers will be in for even more surprises when Jackson finally learns about the baby.
“There are all kinds of things that will happen when he finds out that she’s pregnant,” she revealed cagily. “That’s all I’m going to say.”
