But will he bump into Rory?! Jared Padelecki hinted in a new interview that his return to Gilmore Girls might be a brief one, in Netflix’s revival series Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. The actor opened up about reprising his role as Dean Forester during a Supernatural convention late last month.
“I will say probably a lot more than I’m supposed to. [Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino] basically said, ‘Listen, we’re going to write you a really cool scene, and if you get a day off let us know — we will just put your scene on the schedule for that day.’ She was like, ‘It’s a set that we already run and own, [and] it’s an actress that already is working every day, so let us know,'” Padalecki, 33, said.
“So Dean has a cool scene in the market he used to work at,” he continued. “It’s a nice, a really nice scene that gave me closure.”
The actor starred on the beloved series from 2000 to 2005. He played Rory’s high school sweetheart, before she went on to date broody Jess Mariano (Milo Ventimiglia) and college boyfriend Logan Huntzberger (Matt Czuchry).
Padalecki abruptly left Stars Hollow midway through season 5 to play Sam Winchester in the CW hit Supernatural. “I never had closure. One day I was an actor on Gilmore Girls, and the next day I had a TV show and would never again be on Gilmore Girls,” he said at the press conference. “So for me, as a person, it was weird, because I was like ‘What about Dean?’ So it was fun to go wrap it up in a really cool way.”
It still remains a mystery if Dean and Rory (Alexis Bledel) find closure together, though. Since news of the revival, fans have been wondering if Lorelai Gilmore’s daughter gets back with one of her exes. Last year, the three men joked about who they are rooting for during the cast ATX Festival reunion in Austin, Texas. Padalecki and Czuchry, 39, were all about Team Jess while Ventimiglia, 38, revealed that he’s Team Dean.
A premiere date for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life has yet to be announced.
