Poor Mrs. Segel! Jason Segel confessed in a recent interview that his mother, Jillian Jordan, was less-than-pleased with her son's full-frontal nudity scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Part of the reason, he told Vanity Fair, was because she had no clue it was coming.
"She cried," Segel, 34, recalled of when his mom saw the graphic scene in the 2008 comedy flick.
After the initial shock had subsided, his mom went on to send a mass email to family members, giving them fair warning about the scene. "I would like to inform you all that Jason has chosen to do full-frontal nudity," she wrote. "However, it is not gratuitous and is essential to the plot."
Segel will most likely need to prime his mother for his upcoming movie, Sex Tape, which costars Cameron Diaz. The two spoke to the New York Times last month about their intimate scenes in the comedy. "Oh, after this movie, we are real comfortable," Diaz quipped.
"To do something like this has the potential to be very awkward," Segel added. "But we share a mentality that, when it comes to comedy, the bottom line is it being as funny as it can possibly be, and that involves being pride free. That could have been awkward with a different partnership. But we laughed so much more than we cringed."
Segel also attempted to explain the purpose of his infamous full-frontal nudity scene from Sarah Marshall. "One of the pitfalls of a romantic comedy is that you know how it’s going to end," he said. "The guy and the girl on the poster are going to end up together. I felt like if the main guy showed his [penis], you’re forced to sit back and say, 'I have no idea what’s going to happen in this movie.'"
