Jason Segel

Jason Segel is an Emmy-nominated actor, writer and producer best known for playing Marshall Eriksen on How I Met Your Mother and for starring in and writing hit comedy films. Segel was born in Los Angeles and raised in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood alongside his older brother and younger sister. Segel attended St. Matthew’s Parish School and later graduated from Harvard-Westlake School, where he played on the school’s state championship basketball team.

Segel began his acting career in the late 1990s with roles in Can’t Hardly Wait (1998) and SLC Punk! (1998) before landing his breakout role as Nick Andopolis on the cult-favorite series Freaks and Geeks. He continued working with producer Judd Apatow on Undeclared before achieving mainstream success as Marshall Eriksen on How I Met Your Mother, a role he played from 2005 to 2014. During that time, he also established himself as a successful screenwriter and leading man in Blockbuster comedy films.

On the big screen, Segel went on to appear in films like Knocked Up (2007), Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008), I Love You, Man (2009), The Muppets (2011), Sex Tape (2014) and Our Friend (2019). He also cocreated and produced the series Shrinking alongside Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein. His work on the show earned him Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor and Best Lead Actor, respectively.

Segel has been romantically linked to Linda Cardellini, Michelle Williams and photographer Alexis Mixter. In 2023, he began dating dancer Kayla Radomski, and the couple got engaged in 2025.
