Letting the cameras in! Rascal Flatts bassist Jay DeMarcus and wife Allison DeMarcus are about to share their entire life with the world with a new reality show. DeMarcus Family Rules documents the couple’s every day as a power couple and parents of two living in Nashville.
Although the filming took a bit of getting used to, it actually bonded the pair.
“I think what it helped us do — in the midst of the chaos — was turn more inward to each other and lean on each other because we’d never been in a situation,” Jay, 49, told Us Weekly exclusively. “Obviously we live together and raise kids together, but we haven’t worked together that intensely on something before. So there were definitely moments of frustration or long nights or long days that would go on and on and on, but it helped us come to a point to really lean on each other more.”
Jay and Allison met on set of the music video for Rascal Flatts’ “These Days.” They married two years later in 2004 and share daughter Madeline, 9, and son Dylan, 8.
“I think that it brought us in some ways closer to each other, which is hard to imagine, but it really did,” the Ohio native continued. “The great thing about this is that it was something we could do with our kids and our entire family. That was a blast in and of itself — just being with them, seeing how much they enjoyed the process and how unpredictably funny they were in some circumstances. So I really think that it brought us closer together as a family.”
The former Miss Tennessee also highlighted the importance of family time for them, considering their usual busy schedules.
“Usually everybody’s running in a million different directions. So our time together is so limited,” the pageant queen, 43, said. “So we try and spend quality time — maybe not quantity times. That was nice for us to have that time carved out, and we really could actually hang out with each other and enjoy our whole family even more.”
