Can't buy me love? Jinger Duggar and beau Jeremy Vuolo have an excruciatingly awkward conversation with her dad in Counting On's Tuesday, September 13, episode, as seen in Us Weekly's exclusive sneak peek.
The TLC series' preview clip shows the lovebirds sitting down for a meal with family members, including Jim Bob Duggar, at a Mexican restaurant in Vuolo's hometown of Laredo, Texas. (Jinger, 22, got engaged to the former pro soccer player, 28, on a New York City rooftop in July after a brief courtship.)
"I absolutely love Laredo," Jinger tells her dad. "I've heard so much about it — I am so in love with the place, but [also with] this person here."
However, Jim Bob isn't just looking to hear them exchange sweet nothings, as he quickly changes gears to ask his future son-in-law about his income.
"Jeremy, being on the kind of modest pastor salary, when you get married, it's going to be a lot tighter, going from being a single guy to being a married guy, whenever that happens — I'm not saying anytime soon," Jim Bob, 51, says. "But Jinger loves to go thrift shopping, and it's expensive."
"I was just curious about, financially and stuff … I mean, you might have to have a part-time job, along with the pastor [gig], to make a go of it," the father of 19 continues.
Vuolo admits to being taken aback by the topic, as he tells the camera, "So Mr. Duggar wanted to talk about Jinger and her love for thrift store shopping, and it kind of put me on the spot there."
This isn't the first uncomfortable moment that the couple have had with her dad, as Jim Bob didn't appear particularly pleased in this season's premiere episode when Vuolo asked to start courting Jinger.
Watch the cringeworthy clip in the video above to see Jim Bob discussing whether his daughter and Vuolo are ready to "swap spit." Counting On airs on TLC Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
