Cut it out! Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen may not be returning for Netflix’s Fuller House spinoff, but that doesn’t mean Michelle will be totally left out of the Tanner family fun. Though the spinoff doesn’t begin filming until next month, series costar Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie Tanner) told Us Weekly that the family’s beloved little sister will be brought up on the show.
“The Michelle character is still going to have a presence. It’s not like were not talking about her,” Sweetin told Us at the Thursday, June 4 premiere of Insidious 3 in L.A. “I love and support [Mary-Kate and Ashley], and I think we’re going to be just fine.”
Sweetin, 33, and her costars Bob Saget (Danny Tanner), Dave Coulier (Joey Gladstone), John Stamos (Jesse Katsopolis), Lori Loughlin (Rebecca Donaldson), Candace Cameron Bure (D.J. Tanner), and Andrea Barber (Kimmy Gibbler), are set to begin production on the project in July, and as Sweetin explains, the first day back on set will be quite a moment.
“We first started talking about this in like 2007, 2008 about trying to do some sort of a spinoff and kind of bringing the characters back. This has been a long time in the making,” revealed the actress. “I had kind of given up for periods of time where I’m like, ‘It’s not going happen!’ But we pitched it to Netflix and they were so excited about it.”
As a mom of two young children herself, Sweetin is anxious to bring an “adult edge” to the series and to her character. “I think that Stephanie is going to be a really interesting, complex, deep character,” Sweetin hinted.
Until she heads back to work, Sweetin is savoring her last few weeks of summer vacation with her family, including her daughters Beatrix and Zoie, and her boyfriend. “A typical date night is staying up until nine o’clock because I have two kids,” the star told Us. “We love going out to dinner and being able to talk and enjoy each other’s company. Getting to go to a movie and be scared and then go home together tonight will be really fun!”
