Mary-Kate Olsen’s rise to fame and fortune came alongside her twin sister, Ashley Olsen, when they landed their shared role as Michelle Tanner on Full House at only nine months old. The two stayed on the show for eight years and built an empire of kids’ movies, books, music and their own fashion line before starting college.
Though she acted solo in a few projects, such as Weeds and the 2011 movie Beastly with costar Vanessa Hudgens, Mary-Kate retired from acting in 2012 to focus on fashion.
Mary-Kate and Ashley co-founded luxury fashion brand The Row in 2006. They also own Elizabeth and James as well as Olsenboye. The duo have won awards from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and their clothing regularly appears on red carpets (often on Avengers actress Elizabeth Olsen, who is their younger sister).
Outside of fashion, Mary-Kate keeps busy with her lifelong passion for competitive horseback riding. She placed third in 2021 at the Longines Global Champions Tour in Rome.
The California native married French banker Olivier Sarkozy in November 2015. They filed for divorce in April 2020, and the split was finalized in January 2021.
