Kate Hudson just proved she can hang. When the Almost Famous star visited Italy with adventurer Bear Grylls on Running Wild, Hudson eschewed Hollywood's gourmet-healthy cuisine for the local delicacy of . . . ants! As survival expert Grylls told HuffPost Live, Hudson wasn't afraid to take a walk on the wild side during Running Wild's second season, premiering Monday, July 13.
"She is fun loving and bubbly, but she's also got a real streak of steel. She's real focused when she needs to be," Grylls said in the Friday, July 10 chat on HuffPost Live. "She's had some real battles in her life, and hearing those, you warm to her. She was quite emotional by the end of the journey," he added of Hudson, 36, who endured very public family strife last month when her father, Bill Hudson, announced that he was disowning the star and her actor brother Oliver Hudson.
"I love what the wild does to people — it gives a sense of pride and empowerment that money can't buy," Grylls added. "The magic of Running Wild is that you get to see these [celebrities] as they are — cold, beaten up, and hungry — and see the real them. They're the ones doing it; there's no shortcuts." Grylls, 41, who will also tag along during Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Michael B. Jordan's trips into the wild, also had high praise for another A-list leading lady: Kate Middleton.
"It's refreshing to see how normal they are. They're so down-to-earth and friendly," said Grylls, who sat courtside at Wimbledon with his royal friend and her husband Prince William this week. "She looks so immaculate and you can't believe she had a baby. How can you criticize Prince William and Kate? They're mega-humble. I'm a big fan."
