Lauren Graham Reacts to Melissa McCarthy Joining the ‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival

Lorelai and Sookie are back together again! Lauren Graham is overjoyed to have Melissa McCarthy join the Gilmore Girls revival on Netflix. The Parenthood alum gave a shout-out to her former costar via Twitter last week.

“Yay, Sookie! This makes me so so happy,” Graham, 49, tweeted on Friday, April 7. “Let’s all go see @TheBossFilm this weekend to celebrate.”

Graham shared her excitement just moments after news broke that McCarthy, 45, would be returning to Stars Hollow. McCarthy opened up about reprising her role as Lorelai’s BFF and the Dragonfly Inn’s head chef during a taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“It is really exciting. [Gilmore Girls] was near and dear to my heart,” the Boss star told DeGeneres on Friday. “We could not get those schedules to work [for the reboot]. And there was a whole thing. And then I was gonna be out of the country and blah, blah, blah. And literally about an hour and half ago, we figured out that I’m going to go back and do it, and I am so excited. And they are gonna be amazing.”

McCarthy is the last leading star to join the new revival, which began filming at the Warner Bros. lot in L.A. in January. As previously reported, creator Amy Sherman-Palladino said in February that she contacted McCarthy’s team about the project, but that McCarthy, now a blockbuster A-list star, was “really f‑‑king busy.” McCarthy, however, tweeted at the time that “sadly no one asked” her to come on board.
