Did they throw in the towel too soon? In a preview for the Monday, April 18, episode of Teen Mom 2, Leah Messer and Jeremy Calvert talk about the demise of their marriage in a strikingly honest conversation.
In the clip, the reality TV twosome sit down for dinner and Messer, 23, attempts to cast aside any tension by making a joke. “I feel so bad for you,” she laughs to the waiter, “because this is an ex-husband and an ex-wife, and we’re drinking!”
Still, the 16 & Pregnant alum’s one-liner couldn’t prevent Calvert, 27, from asking his former spouse, “Do you ever wish you would’ve listened to me one time?”
Messer turns it back on the father of her 3-year-old daughter, Adalynn. “Well, I have a question for you,” she tells her ex with a smile. “Do you ever think you would’ve listened to me one time?”
Calvert nods his head and says, “Yeah,” before Messer really begins to open up. “Like, you were the one person, I thought, like, I couldn’t imagine myself being with anyone else,” she passionately explains. “I’m telling you, like, mmm …”
After Calvert playfully accuses Messer of being a tad tipsy, the pair resume more serious talk about their fizzled relationship, including the mistakes the young mom of three has made.
“I’m not going to lie to you. There was nights I was scared for the girls,” Calvert says to Messer. “There were nights. You damn right. I was scared.”
“I’m not going to say I wasn’t in a bad place … because I know I was,” Messer concedes. “And I was looking for a hand, like, some kind of help.”
As Us Weekly previously reported, the MTV personality completed a 30-day stay at a treatment facility for anxiety and depression last summer. On a recent episode, she lost primary custody of her 6-year-old twins, Aliannah and Aleeah, to their father and Messer’s first ex-husband, Corey Simms. (Since that episode was taped, she has been given primary custody of her girls back.) Messer and Calvert wed in April 2012 and officially divorced three years later in June 2015.
Calvert tells his onetime love that her past actions launched her into a “big black hole” and that he “tried and gave up,” to which a tearful Messer responds: “So we shouldn’t have just gave up.”
