Love Is Blind season 11 star Sarah Williams opens up about the conversation she had with fiancé John Shannon in the pods about healthcare and values, revealing it was more in-depth than viewers saw.
“I think I find it funny because, like, it was a very long conversation,” Sarah, 34, exclusively tells Us. “Understandably, they make the clips kind of quickly so that you can see a little bit of everyone.”
While viewers only got a glimpse of their candid exchange, Sarah says she feels her and John’s “opinions weren’t that differing.”
Sarah and John, 33, covered a handful of topics in the pods including their stances on vaccines and abortion. Sarah expressed support of both topics, while John appeared hesitant to say he was pro-vaccine or pro-choice.
“I understand why people are saying that when I watch it back, as well,” Sarah continues. “I think we, like, actually really, like, came together, and I almost just had met in the middle. But I actually don’t even think it was meeting in the middle.”
Sarah clarifies that she would have “been OK with an answer that didn’t align with my values.”
“I think that I almost wish everyone could have seen the full conversation, because I think it was a wonderful conversation,” she concludes. “I appreciated the conversation, and that’s why we kept moving forward.”
The latest season of the Netflix reality dating series premiered on Wednesday, October 14, and documents a cast of singles from Boston trying to find love sight unseen.
Sarah and John quickly hit it off, though they hit a roadblock in their relationship when she overheard him tell another contestant that she was his “bottom” choice.
Despite the setback, the couple managed to work through the issue and they got engaged.
After the first batch of episodes aired, John took to Instagram to address viewers’ interpretations of his healthcare beliefs.
“Just to clarify a couple of things: I believe in a woman’s right to choose,” John wrote in a Friday, October 16, statement. “I tried to communicate during our conversation that I don’t believe abortion should be illegal.”
He also said he is “not ‘anti-vax.’” John continued, “My most recent vaccine was the shingles, which was recommended before I started treatment for my [multiple sclerosis].”
“I love that so many of you recognize how wonderful Sarah is. We had an hour-long conversation about these topics that was condensed into about 45 seconds,” John continued.
