Martha Stewart is opening up about recently being in the same room as Meghan Markle — and what she really thinks about the Duchess of Sussex’s cooking show.
“We were both guests at a dinner party in California. And she had just gotten back from the palace. I didn’t talk to her really more than to say a couple words, but I know she was talking about it,” Stewart, 85, said in People’s Wednesday, August 5, cover story.
When asked for her thoughts on With Love, Meghan, Stewart replied, “If you’re an actress, it’s hard to then transition to a princess and then from a princess into a homemaking guru on a television show. It doesn’t sort of follow. So go from there.”
Meghan, 45, launched her brand, As Ever, in 2025, the same year that her lifestyle show hit Netflix. The series, which aired for two seasons and had a holiday special, followed the Suits alum and several familiar faces creating dishes and giving hosting tips.
Multiple outlets reported in January that With Love, Meghan wasn’t being renewed for a third season. Us confirmed in March that Netflix had also ended its partnership with Meghan’s As Ever brand.
Stewart, for her part, has been candid through the years about her thoughts on Meghan transitioning into the lifestyle space since moving to California. (Meghan and husband Prince Harry announced their decision to step back as senior members of the royal family in 2020. The pair relocated to California, where they are raising son Prince Archie and daughter Princess Lilibet.)
“Authenticity matters a lot,” Stewart told Us in September 2024. “Does Meghan Markle really design her products? Has she used those products? Can she speak nicely about her own products? That’s all she has to do. And she’s extremely well-known. Extremely famous, and I’m anxious to see what she comes up with.”
One year later, Stewart shared a message for Meghan after the launch of As Ever. “Meghan I don’t know very well, and I hope she knows what she’s talking about,” Stewart told Yahoo Lifestyle in 2025. “Authenticity, to me, is everything, and to be authentic and knowledgeable about your subject matter is extremely important.”
While Stewart didn’t discuss Meghan further, she did offer praise for Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow.
“Gwyneth has been very successful; she created quite an interesting body of businesses,” she shared, adding that she admires Paltrow. “She won an Oscar, for heaven’s sake, as an actress! She’s pretty powerful.”
