Megyn Kelly is denouncing Sydney Sweeney’s “disgusting” scene in a Euphoria season 3 teaser clip.
“She’s in a baby’s outfit. She’s sucking on a binky pacifier, and her legs are completely spread,” Kelly, 55, said on the Tuesday, April 14, episode of The Megyn Kelly Show about the viral image of Sweeney’s character, Cassie, creating content for her OnlyFans account.
Kelly slammed the depiction of Cassie dressed up as a baby for “sexualizing infancy.”
“I think this is another example, guys, of Hollywood not understanding at all where the line is and how most normal people are going to recoil, even Sydney Sweeney fans, in response to what’s essentially the sexualization of a child, of a baby,” Kelly continued.
The former Fox personality said the scene “seems to be wanting to bring down your defenses on the most disgusting crime imaginable on Earth.”
As for Sweeney, 28, Kelly declared, “I can’t believe she agreed to this.” She then blasted another scene in which Cassie is “dressed as a dog being led around on a leash” in the premiere episode, which aired on Sunday, April 12.
Kelly placed a lot of the blame on show creator Sam Levinson, calling him a “sick jerk” for writing the overly sexualized story line. (Levinson defended Sweeney’s racy scenes in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter on Sunday, noting, “What we wanted to always find is the other layer of absurdity that we’re able to tie into it so that we’re not too inside of her fantasy or illusion. The gag is to jump out, to break the wall.”)
The first episode gave insight into Cassie’s relationship with Nate (Jacob Elordi) years after high school, as the couple prepares to wed in a lavish, top-of-the-line ceremony. Nate has taken over his father’s construction business and is working overtime to seal the deal on his Sun Settlers community, which aims to be a premium “end-of-life transitional facility in Southern California.”
Cassie, meanwhile, is focused on their wedding being the epitome of opulence and demands they shell out $50,000 on floral arrangements. When Nate refuses and says he can understand up to $5,000 but nothing more than that, Cassie tells him they have a “problem” and suggests launching an OnlyFans account, where she can rake in extra cash with some flirty interactions and racy content online.
Sweeney previously spoke about her character’s arc this season during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“She will do anything and at all costs to be famous this season and she makes a lot of very wild, interesting choices,” Sweeney said on April 8. “In true Cassie fashion! She will not disappoint, that’s for sure.”
If season 3 is the end of the show, Sweeney said it will be tough to come to terms with, adding, “Cassie has been such a big part of my life, so I think it’s a very bittersweet moment, for sure.”
