Miley Cyrus isn’t just kicking back in her Voice chair.
“She’s the show’s most devoted coach ever,” a source close to the NBC sing-off reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly. “She has a hand in choosing the hair, makeup and wardrobe for her team, and she goes to all the dress rehearsals when she’s not even paid to be there. Nobody else does that!”
The singer, 23, has become emotionally invested in her team as well. “She cries when she has to eliminate people,” adds the insider. “She’s even close to the contestants’ family members now.”
Indeed, on the competition’s Monday, October 24, episode, Cyrus, who is engaged to Liam Hemsworth, sobbed when sisters Whitney and Shannon got the boot following their duet of “I Won’t Give Up.” With tears in her eyes, she said, “Oh, God, here I go!”
Next season, however, she’ll get to take a breather when fellow coach Blake Shelton’s girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, returns to fill her slot. “Gwen wants to come back to the show to be with Blake more,” notes the source. “He can’t stop gushing about her.”
As Us previously reported, Stefani, who served on seasons 7 and 9 of the smash hit, will join veteran coaches Shelton, Adam Levine and Alicia Keys for season 12.
“We can’t wait to experience the unique chemistry and energy Gwen, Alicia, Blake and Adam will bring to season 12,” Paul Telegdy, president, Alternative and Reality Group, NBC Entertainment, told Variety October 18. “With Miley returning for season 13, we’re truly ecstatic about the unmatched musical know-how and talent coming together in our coming seasons.”
The Voice airs on NBC Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
