A Netflix executive issued a cryptic response to online rumors Meghan Markle is joining season 3 of The Gentlemen.
“All bets are off,” Manda Levin, Netflix’s scripted chief in the U.K., said at the Edinburgh TV Festival on Wednesday, August 26, when asked about the Duchess of Sussex’s potential involvement in the series.
Levin’s eyebrow-raising comment comes one week after Us learned from a source that Meghan, 45, is in early talks to star in season 3 of Guy Ritchie’s crime drama. It’s unclear what character — if any — the former senior royal would play.
Netflix announced season 3’s renewal on Monday, August 24, although the streamer did not address Meghan’s possible casting.
“Ambition can’t be tamed. The Gentlemen Season 2, starring Theo James and Kaya Scodelario, premieres NEXT THURSDAY,” Netflix wrote via X. “As for Season 3? Consider it official.”
The Gentlemen follows English aristocrat Eddie Horniman (James), who inherits a massive industrial marijuana operation after his father’s death.
Should Meghan take part in season 3, it would be her first TV role since her exit from the legal drama Suits in 2018 prior to marrying Prince Harry.
The casting rumors come amid Meghan and Harry’s return to the U.K. six years after the couple stepped down from their roles as senior royals and moved to Montecito, California. The Duke of Sussex, 41, and his wife touched down at Birmingham Airport with their two children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, on Wednesday, according to multiple reports.
Amid the news of their move, a source exclusively told Us that Harry was “not as happy in the U.S. as he is in the U.K.” The insider added that he and Meghan are “open to a new chapter.”
Harry’s father, King Charles III, confirmed that Meghan and Harry will remain non-working members of the royal family, maintaining the couple’s wishes and agreements over past years. Harry is expected to spend more time supporting U.K.-based charities and patronages, while Meghan is slated to continue running her As Ever brand overseas.
The pair’s move back to the U.K. could also pave the way for Harry to mend his estranged relationships with Charles, 77, and brother Prince William. Us understands that Charles learned of Harry and Meghan’s move on August 16. He is said to welcome the opportunity to see Harry and his family in a private and personal capacity.
As for William, 44, former royal butler Grant Harrold exclusively told Us that the move likely won’t “completely heal” the rift between the heir apparent and his younger brother.
“It will take a lot more than that. Too much happened. It will be a situation where actions mean more than words,” Harrold said. “I think they will be poker-faced and play happy families, but behind the scenes it will take a lot more.”
