Less than 10 years since the Jonas Brothers hit the pop music scene, Nick Jonas is kicking off his second chapter. Though he still occasionally performs with his brothers Joe and Kevin Jonas, the musician and actor has garnered success on his own, releasing the popular new single “Jealous” in September. In the November issue of Nylon, the former band’s youngest member talked about the future of his music.
“I’m in a season of my life where I feel really fortunate to have had a whole career, and now I almost get to start over,” Jonas, 22, said. “I’ve opened my mind up to some different inspirations.”
The former Disney star is also looking forward to his upcoming tour after the Jonas Brothers canceled their final tour in October 2013.
“It will be great just to get my feet back under me and learn how to perform again,” he said, promising “warm, fun, intimate shows.”
When discussing his music, particularly “Jealous,” Jonas said he was trying to sing about topics that everyone deals with.
“There are moments when you just get it in your head — jealousy is a universal feeling, and the best way to deal with it is to listen to this song and have fun, dance, or do whatever,” he said.
In addition to his budding solo career, Jonas is also starring in the martial arts drama Kingdom on DirecTV. For the part, he had to bulk up and get in shape. (As a result, he’s become an Internet sensation for his shirtless pictures.)
“It’s really intense and raw,” he said of his role as Nate Kulina. “It doesn’t hold anything back. I could sit here and try and guess who’s going to watch, but you never know until it’s up and out there.”
