The CW, what are you doing to Us!? Nina Dobrev’s emotional, nostalgia-filled, and downright heartbreaking season finale promo for The Vampire Diaries has just been released — and there’s really not enough tissues to deal with it.
In the sneak peek, Elena Gilbert (Dobrev) appears to be dying (seriously, can’t handle this!) as Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) holds her and Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) and Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola) look on.
“I’m not a believer. People grow old, then they die,” Elena says. “There’s nothing more I could ever want other than for it to last forever. But I can’t.” (Spoiler alert! In the penultimate episode on May 7, Kai left Elena for dead at Jo and Alaric’s wedding.)
What’s more gut-wrenching than Elena’s final goodbye, however, is the flashback montage the promo features. Some clips include her romances with Damon and Stefan, good times with brother Jeremy Gilbert (Steven McQueen) and pal Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino), and her friendship with Caroline and Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham).
“I’m Thinking of You All the While” airs Thursday, May 14 on The CW at 8 p.m. EST.
