Padma Lakshmi on View Appearance With Ann Coulter: “Please Don’t Let Me Slap a Bitch on National TV”

Oh, tell Us what you really think! Padma Lakshmi sat down with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live on Thursday, Dec. 3, and shared exactly what she thought about appearing on The View with Ann Coulter in October. Let’s just say she’s not a fan of the conservative political commentator’s opinions.

“She was sitting next to me, and obviously I’m an immigrant,” the Top Chef host, 45, explained to Cohen. “I was thinking, ‘Lord, please don’t let me slap a bitch on national TV.’”

Oh, snap! So what made the gorgeous former model turned foodie so angry during her first View appearance? The 53-year-old pundit was promoting her book Adios America!: The Left’s Plan to Turn Our Country Into a Third-World Hellhole, and naturally, shared her thoughts on immigration.

“She has a right to her own opinion,” Lakshmi, who is originally from India, told Cohen. “I don’t agree with a lot of her views, and I don’t agree with them for some very vehement reasons, especially on immigration. So I just thought, ‘I have to be graceful,’ because I have a limit — she may not have that limit.”

Among the comments that likely angered the jewelry designer? “We’re bringing in millions and millions of people from very poor cultures, from very backwards cultures. Our social programs are for the American poor,” Coulter said during her appearance. “The majority of immigrants are on welfare! … We don’t need to be importing other countries’ poor people.”

“I didn’t even need to talk,” Lakshmi also told Cohen of trying to stay in control during her appearance with Coulter, whom she called “whip-smart.” “You can see it on my face.”

“Your face said it all!” the WWHL host agreed. “She’d be a really good Housewife actually — she’ll say anything.”
