Upset on the runway!
On Thursday's season 8 finale of Project Runway, after showing a collection comprised entirely of neutrals, Gretchen Jones walked away with the title of top designer over fan favorite Mondo Guerra. Andy South finished in third place.
Declaring the deliberation process the "toughest decision in Project Runway history," host Heidi Klum praised Jones for her "polished" collection.
Guerra, who got a nod from the judges for his creativity, displayed a variety of fun and flirty prints and colors in his collection.
Runway's outcome no doubt comes as a surprise to fans of the Lifetime series. In an Oct. 21 poll, 77% of UsMagazine.com readers expected Denver, Colo. based Guerra to earn top honors.
"I honestly believe everything happens for a reason," Guerra said after his elimination. "I didn't win Project Runway but I won so much more."
For her efforts, Jones will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine, $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to start her own line, a $50,000 technology suite by HP and Intel to help run her business, and a chance to design a collection to be sold exclusively at Piperlime.com.
