‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ Recap: Kim Fields and Cynthia Bailey Confront Kenya Moore Over Gay Rumors

With friends like these — you must be one of the Real Housewives of Atlanta. The Sunday, February 21, episode picked up exactly where last week's had left off, with Sheree Whitfield telling Kim Fields that other women in the group had called her husband, Chris Morgan, "fruity or gay." To her credit, Kim took the news in stride and didn't lose her cool.

"Chris is a wonderful husband and father and we've been together happily for 10 years and it's good," she said in reply. Naturally, Kenya Moore couldn't let the situation be diffused as easily as that.

"I don't think we really care either way if your husband is gay or whether or not you guys are having tax problems or any other kind of problems," she said. (Tax problems? Huh?) "You portray like everything is perfect. It's not really perfect, so we just want the real Kim Fields to show up. You have this wall up and it's almost like you're reading from a script."

Shortly after that, Kim (wisely) up and left, but even then she seemed pretty collected. Her husband also took it in stride and basically laughed it off.

NeNe and Phaedra Pick a Side

Later, NeNe Leakes and Phaedra Parks met up with Kim for a poolside brunch where the topic of conversation was Kenya. Kim complained that she felt Kenya had basically put a target on her back, while NeNe encouraged her to stand up for herself. "You can never be passive amongst this group of ladies," NeNe explained to the camera. "I'm just trying to help Kim out."

Phaedra clearly agreed, arguing, "The only way to stop a bully is if you punch them square in the face," and drawing a metaphor between Kenya and a rattlesnake that needed its head chopped off. "We got your back," Phaedra promised Kim.

The whole group, which included Porsha Williams and her date Oliver, Cynthia Bailey and her husband Peter Thomas, Sheree and her ex-husband Bob Whitfield — who was actively trying to win Sheree back — Kenya and her boyfriend Matt, Kim, Phaedra and NeNe, headed for a hike up Dunn's River Falls. (Well, everyone hiked up the river except NeNe, who sort of cheered from the sidelines.)

For the most part, the rest of the crew went up the river together, but Kenya and Matt scurried on ahead. "Everything's not a competition," Cynthia grumbled to the camera. "This could have been a bonding experience."

Later that night, they all went for a traditional Jamaican jerk chicken dinner, where the men and women hung out separately. Matt did better holding his own this time with the other (older) guys, but the women had some problems. And those problems were Kenya and Kim. At NeNe's encouraging, Kim began the conversation.

"I feel like at some point, Kenya, you've crossed a line into disrespect of me that's not going to be tolerated. So let's have no communication or cordial communication, but at the end of the day you're not going to talk about my family, you're not going to talk about me. I think it's highly unfair and disrespectful," she said.

"Congratulations for being able to speak for yourself," Kenya snapped back, prompting Cynthia to chastise her (former?) friend.

Kenya explained to Kim, "I don't hate you. I'm indifferent to you." She sighed and continued, "I have come a long way with a lot of girls at the table. Whether we get there or not, I don't know. I just am not willing to spend any more effort on the cause. If we're at an impasse, we're at an impasse."

Cynthia told Kenya, point blank, she owed Kim an apology for trying to yank her chair out from under her a few days earlier and, shockingly, Kenya complied. "It was out of line," she muttered.

But Kenya wasn't out of hot water just yet. Cynthia — who was already just about at the end of her rope with Kenya's antics — was even more put off when Kenya and Matt rolled in late to the final dinner of the trip (while Peter was in the middle of a heartfelt speech, no less).

Discussing the success of the commercial shoot, Cynthia said, "The only thing that was missing, for me, was Kenya." She then turned to the former beauty queen and added, "You did come but then when you came you pretty much just got in the paddle boat and paddled."

Kenya took a breath and said, "Obviously things went wrong from the time that you asked both of us to work on the commercial. I really did prepare. I had a great concept for you. I actually had two. The fact that you didn't give me an opportunity to hear me out, honestly, it just hurt my feelings more than anything."

Cynthia then told Kenya that once she had decided to let Kim produce and direct the commercial (again, because Kenya blew off the meeting), she'd had her heart set on Kenya playing her girlfriend in the shoot.

"Was this before or after NeNe came back?" Kenya snapped. NeNe jumped in, telling them to leave her out of it. (In NeNe's defense, she didn't play Cynthia's girlfriend in the commercial either.)

"The only reason [Malorie] was laying beside her was because you elected not to be there," Peter explained. That softened Kenya a bit.

"Honestly, it was a real jerk thing for me to do," Kenya said to Cynthia. "I'm really sorry because I let you down." Cynthia accepted her apology, saying she felt it was "sincere." For what it's worth, Phaedra wasn't convinced.
