True love. Country star Rory Feek shared a new post on his blog entitled “It’s Christmas Time,” in which he revealed that his wife, Joey, who is nearing the end of her battle with cancer, is in okay spirits as Christmas nears.
“Joey’s still feeling pretty good,” Rory, 49, wrote on Friday, Dec. 4. “Really good actually. We’ve been able to keep her pain under control for the most part and her spirit is just as positive as ever. Even more so lately.”
Joey, 40 — who shares 21-month-old daughter Indiana with Rory — has been battling stage IV cervical cancer since last year. In October, she announced that she was stopping chemotherapy treatment and entered hospice care.
“My wife knows I love Christmas,” he continued. “There’s a magic that’s in the air that isn’t there any other time of the year.”
Rory has detailed his wife’s battle with cancer in a series of posts on his blog, This Life I Live. On Sunday, Nov. 29, he revealed that he and Joey shared their last dance together.
“A few days ago, the last day Joey walked, I took her in my arms in the living room and once more put her hand in mine and we danced,” he wrote.
In the same blog post, Rory reflected on his wife’s love for dancing and related it to his documenting her illness.
“Like dancing, she wants to do this right, or not at all,” he wrote. “To share the good, the bad, and the beautiful.”
