Over it? Rosie Perez is reportedly leaving The View after only four months at the round table, Variety reports. The move comes after Perez, who joined the ABC talk show following the major shake-up and firing of Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd in June 2014, fulfills her role in Broadway play Fish in the Dark, in which she’s taking the month of January off to perform in.
According to Variety, it’s “understood” she won’t be returning to join her fellow co-hosts Rosie O’Donnell, Nicolle Wallace, and Whoopi Goldberg following the play. ABC has yet to announce her departure, but Variety reports that “producers have been trying other younger co-hosts in her seat.”
As for why Perez is reportedly calling it quits?
Sources tell Variety that Perez “never got a hang of the show’s mixture of hard and soft news, and she had trouble reading from a teleprompter.”
Despite the report, ABC tells Us Weekly that nothing has changed with Perez’s role. “Rosie Perez is currently in rehearsal for her Broadway play for the month of January,” a rep for ABC tells Us. “Her status with the show has not changed.”
