Sarah Michelle Gellar’s ‘Cruel Intentions’ Throwback With Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe Is the Only Pic You Need to See Today

Kathryn Merteuil, you're too kind — for once. Sarah Michelle Gellar shared the best throwback photo of her Cruel Intentions costars Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe on Thursday, February 25.

Gellar, 38, posted the snap of the cast and crew to Instagram in honor of her new gig. The actress revealed on Wednesday that she will be reprising her role as Kathryn in the movie's TV reboot, which was announced earlier this month.

"#throwbackthursday ok one last one because I was feeling nostalgic," Gellar captioned the photo. "This pic was 1998 at our kick off dinner #cruelintentions #Crueltv #kathrynmerteuil." Gellar also shared a peek at the script, which revealed that the movie's name went through some rough drafts.

"And yes #CruelInventions was the original title," she wrote.

The right corner of the flashback photo is especially nostalgia-filled. Witherspoon and Phillippe, who dated when they filmed the 1999 cult classic, look like babies as they drink wine and beer at the table.

Witherspoon, 39, and Phillippe, 41, played Annette Hargrove and Sebastian Valmont in the Roger Kumble-directed romantic drama. The couple married in the same year of the film's release and are now parents to daughter Ava, 16, and son Deacon, 12.

The stars have moved on since their 2008 divorce. The Wild actress married CAA agent Jim Toth in 2011 and welcomed son Tennessee, 3, in September 2012. Phillippe proposed to his law student girlfriend, Paulina Slagter, last month.

Gellar, Witherspoon and Phillippe are still fond of their past work together. The trio (Phillippe separately) attended the short-lived production of Cruel Intentions, the Unauthorized Musical Parody in L.A. last year.
