Sophia Grace Raps in “Best Friends” Single, Already Wins 2015: Watch

Shut it down. Sophia Grace just won 2015.

The pint-sized pop star, 11, changed the rap game on Tuesday, Jan. 6, when she released her new song and music video “Best Friends.”

This is the second official single for Grace, who rose to fame with her YouTube videos with pal Rosie. She previously debuted 2012’s “Girls Just Gotta Have Fun” after gaining popularity with a 2011 Ellen DeGeneres Show appearance

The child star strikes out on her own with the new single and accompanying video, performing solo. Though she became famous for her covers of popular songs by Nicki Minaj and Keri Hilson, Grace’s latest offering is entirely original.

Rapping over a beat that would rise to the top of any hip-hop chart, Grace takes a girl-celebrating tone with the lyrics to “Best Friends.” She raps about the bonds of friendship and loyalty, rhyming, “That’s my girl, got my back / When I need her, always there / Hold me down, like no one else / When stupid boys come around / Me and my girls shut ’em down / Nobody can stop us now / Women take over, we run this town.”

Lest listeners forget the wunderkind’s age, she adds, “I’ll take it to the top, I’m never gonna stop / Eleven years old, that’s just how I rock / So if you are my best friend put your hands up, now put your hands up!”

In the music video to the radio killer, Grace, with no sign of her dancing sidekick Rosie, greets her best gals at a no-boys-allowed slumber party. The gaggle then proceeds to wreck havoc at a department store, perform in front of infinity pools, try on cute outfits, and break it down to “Best Friends.”

Grace premiered the song on RyanSeacrest.com on Tuesday “I’m so excited to release this song as I think all girls can relate to the lyrics,” she told the radio host. “It’s a great song to listen to with your friends at a party and it’s real catchy for everyone to sing along, I had so much fun recording this song in the studio.”
