Too much of a good thing? Ben Higgins — who shocked The Bachelor viewers by telling two women he loves them in the Monday, February 29, episode — exclusively tells Us Weekly that he wouldn’t change his actions if he had a chance to redo the episode.
The Denver-based software salesman spoke to Us at the Women Tell All taping on Saturday, February 27, in Los Angeles, where he explained that his decision to tell both Lauren B. and JoJo that he loves them was not made at the spur of the moment, although he admits to waiting for the ladies to say it first.
“It wasn’t like I didn’t know I had feelings for them, but I think once I heard that from them, and I was validated in that, [and] I could say openly to them, ‘Hey, I love you, too’ — we all needed it,” he tells Us. “We all needed to hear where we stood because I think we all knew it, but it just needed to be said.”
Promos for the ABC dating series’ March 14 finale suggest that the dual “I love you”s will complicate things for the Bachelor, not to mention that Twitter users and former Bachelor stars alike have had plenty to say about his heart-on-his-sleeve remarks to both women. But Higgins, 27, says that making the two proclamations still makes sense to him.
“That was my feelings at the time — it was my feelings in this situation,” he says. “I don’t regret being honest.”
Higgins and the season’s last woman standing are engaged, and he feels that the currently strong relationship validates his actions.
“It spit me out in a good place,” he adds about his divisive decision.
Tell Us: Was Ben right to follow his heart and tell both women that he loves them?
The Bachelor airs on ABC Mondays at 8 p.m. EST.
