Before The Pitt returns for season 3, Shawn Hatosy weighed in on the chances of the show still exploring a romance between Abbot and Mohan after Supriya Ganesh‘s exit.
“I believe that Abbot thinks that Mohan is very special and they do have a unique relationship,” Hatosy, 50, exclusively told Us Weekly at the MPTF NextGen Summer Party on Sunday, May 31.
Hatosy said he “can’t imagine” Dr. Abbot not staying in touch with former senior resident Dr. Mohan.
“Of course I can’t imagine that he wouldn’t be checking in to see what she’s up to and making sure that she’s following the right path,” he added. ‘Because Abbott believes she’s the future of medicine.”
After working with Ganesh, 28, on two seasons of the show, Hatosy will miss “the dynamic of the relationship,” adding, “Supriya is a talented actress who cares about the right things and is always working to figure out how to make the scene jump off the page. She has a wonderful spirit and of course, I miss [her].”
The Pitt, which premiered on HBO Max in January 2025, follows a group of employees at a fictional Pittsburgh hospital’s ER working a single 15-hour shift. When season 1 was still airing, fans started to show support for a romance between Mohan and Abbot — courtesy of Ganesh and Hatosy’s onscreen chemistry.

Ganesh previously joked to Us that she thought Hatosy was going to “hate working” with her. “All of a sudden, I don’t know why I thought that,” she said in February. “But then we just got on set and it was just like, ‘Oh, that’s Shawn and he’s great.’ He’s such a gifted and lovely and giving actor. He is so great to work with.”
At the time, Ganesh said she was “really happy” Hatosy got a scene in season 2 where he was shirtless — in front of Us and Mohan, adding, “It’s good for him.”
Despite the overwhelming interest in Mohan and Abbot, Ganesh wasn’t sure whether they would become a couple, adding, “It’s whatever the writers think is right. That’s where a lot of this came from. There was a writer in season 1 that was like, ‘Oh, I think these two would be really good together.'”
Ganesh continued. “Shawn and I leaned in. It’s great that everyone also has supported it. So really, it’s just up to what the writing team wants. … There’s a lot of similarities there. They’re also messed up in similar ways too. Honestly, I think it’s like pros and cons.”
News broke one month later that Ganesh would not be returning for season 3, which caused backlash among viewers. Hatosy, for his part, confirmed he will be back in the next installment.
“We start in a couple weeks and I haven’t even read the episode. It hasn’t been sent, but I know that I’m going back,” he shared on Sunday. “Come on, Abbot will be back. That place wouldn’t function that night without Abbot.”
