The Ultimatum’s Killian Grondin revealed how he broke both of his legs after filming season 4 of the hit Netflix series.
“I thought I was still 20. I was doing a back flip and I broke both of them at the same time,” Killian exclusively told Us about the offscreen accident.
Killian was still with his now ex Ashley Wilson when the injury took place.
“I broke both my legs at the same time so I was in a wheelchair for six months,” he recalled of his recovery, admitting that she helped out quite a bit when he wasn’t mobile. “Ashley had to take care of me for about six and a half months, which was pretty brutal for her.”
Killian “felt really bad” for Ashley, adding, “It definitely caused stress because she was doing everything for us. I couldn’t cook, I couldn’t clean and I couldn’t drive myself anywhere. So she was an absolute trooper for that.”
The couple was introduced to Us on season 4 of The Ultimatum, which was released earlier this month. Ashley gave Killian the ultimatum to propose or they would break up and they tried the dating experiment to see if they still wanted a future together.
Despite ending the season engaged, their relationship ultimately came to an end.
“I’m not engaged anymore. Ashley ended things with me,” Killian shared with Us. “I want to say seven or eight months after the show.”
Killian claimed Ashley was quietly making plans to leave. “As soon as my legs were somewhat healed and I could somewhat stand up in the boots, Ashley decided to go get a one-bedroom condo behind my back without telling me,” he alleged.
He continued: “The next day she told me that she was moving out, so she packed within two days. I helped her pack and move into her new place. Then we didn’t speak for about three months or so.”
In the months since their split, Killian and Ashley are now on good terms.
“We started hanging out a little bit here and there as friends. We were trying to be cordial, go to church together and then we kind of realized this is not going to work,” he continued. “It’s hard to let go of the emotions and basically be in a friendship when you were just engaged. We decided that we needed space from each other, but now we obviously are talking again and trying to take care of her feelings and just be there for her — especially with her mother passing away.”
Ashley, for her part, recently broke her silence on their split in an interview with Swooon published on Wednesday, July 22. “I always believed love conquers all, and instead of protecting myself, I just believed in love so much. When in the end, that person is genuinely — now that I’m watching it back — not my biggest supporter,” she claimed. “[He should have been] protecting me at all costs, and he wasn’t.”
“When you don’t see your children with that person anymore, I think it just — it’s not gonna work. It finally just hit me, and I decided to walk away,” Ashley added. “It was very hard for me because that’s my person for five years, and I thought that’s who I was going to end up with. It was the hardest decision I had to make, but probably the best decision.”
