The Ultimatum’s Killian Grondin revealed that he and Ashley Wilson are no longer together after she called off their engagement — months after he broke both of his legs.
“I’m not engaged anymore. Ashley ended things with me,” Killian exclusively told Us on Tuesday, July 21. “I want to say seven or eight months after the show.”
Killian claimed Ashley waited to leave until he started to heal from an injury.
“I thought I was still 20. I was doing a back flip and I broke both of [my legs] at the same time,” he said. “As soon as my legs were somewhat healed and I could somewhat stand up in the boots, Ashley decided to go get a one-bedroom condo behind my back without telling me.”
The reality star alleged he didn’t get any notice about his engagement ending, telling Us, “The next day she told me that she was moving out, so she packed within two days. I helped her pack and move into her new place. Then we didn’t speak for about three months or so.”
Following their dramatic split, Killian and Ashley have since gotten to a better place.
“We started hanging out a little bit here and there as friends. We were trying to be cordial, go to church together and then we kind of realized this is not going to work,” he continued. “It’s hard to let go of the emotions and basically be in a friendship when you were just engaged. We decided that we needed space from each other, but now we obviously are talking again and trying to take care of her feelings and just be there for her — especially with her mother passing away.”
The Ultimatum follows real-life couples who enter “trial” marriages with a new connection before deciding whether they’re ready to get engaged to their original partner. When the hit Netflix series returned for season 4 in July, Killian partnered up with Hayley Hendrich, while Ashley explored the dating experiment with Blake Robertson.
“It was difficult after The Ultimatum. I would get home and I would maybe forget to hold the door open for Ashley or something little. I would get [a] little side comment like, ‘I bet you would do that for Hayley.’ [We] would start bickering and it was definitely hard coming back to reality,” Killian shared. “We’re going back to work and people [are] asking us about how everything was. I broke both my legs at the same time, so I was in a wheelchair for six months. Ashley had to take care of me for about six and a half months, which was pretty brutal for her.”
He continued: “It was definitely tough. We argued. There were times where we wouldn’t talk for the whole day because she was upset and in her head. We went to therapy for it, so we did therapy by ourselves and then also couples therapy. It was definitely not the easiest thing to come back home to after the show.”
Despite their relationship coming to an end, Killian is still grateful for the time he shared with Ashley.
“We’re better off as friends in the long run,” he said. “I’m not dating at all. I have this thing with the self-reflection that I’ve been trying to do. I have this thing that I don’t feel like it would be right to put someone in that situation. So I couldn’t imagine dating someone for months and then sitting down with them and I’m watching them get engaged on the show. I don’t think it’s fair. There’s probably still just needs to be some more time and let all this kind of die down a bit first.”
