‘This Is Us’ Season 6: Every Question That Still Needs an Answer Before the Show’s End

Tying up loose ends. This Is Us has weaved a complicated story over the course of six seasons, but the show’s cast and creatives promised that all lingering questions will be answered before the series concludes. “My hope is that by the end of the series, there is no stone left unturned,” creator Dan Fogelman told Entertainment Weekly in December 2021. “You would have nothing left to ask me about spoilers. You might want to call me and say, ‘I don’t like what happened to such-and-such. I don’t like who such-and-such wound up with.’ But you won’t be going, ‘Who?’ If we’ve done that, I feel like we’ve done our job and we’ve made the choices that we thought were best for the characters and for the story. But by the end of it, I don’t think there will be any of these timeline mysteries left. Hopefully it will set us up for a very beautiful and simple ending to the entire venture.” The writer teased that season 6 would initially have a “nice, quiet, slow pace” to set up “some really big stuff that’s coming down the pike.” Although Fogelman felt like he had “the right ending” in mind for the series, he confessed that he had not “written it yet” at that point. Showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger exclusively told Us Weekly in January that there was still “too much work to do” on the show before processing its end. I think it’s incredibly satisfying. I think it’s beautiful,” the actor told Us in October 2021. “I was just on set with Dan about two weeks ago and he was talking about some things that I didn’t know about the end. I was there with Mandy [Moore]. We just kind of looked at each other, like, one, excited to get into it, and two, incredibly devastated as human beings because this is probably gonna wreck people in the most heartfelt way. It’s beautiful. Who Is Kevin’s Wife?

Based on a flash-forward at Kevin’s (Justin Hartley) house, he is married in the future. However, the identity of his wife has not been revealed. Kevin reconnected with Cassidy (Jennifer Morrison) in a January episode while trying to form a healthy coparenting relationship with ex Madison (Caitlin Thompson). Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays Kevin’s ex-wife, Sophie, also hinted to Us in June 2021 that she has filmed a scene in old-age makeup, though she believed it was cut from the show.

Answer: Sophie is Kevin's wife. The two got back together during episode 14 of season 6, when Sophie arrived at Kate's wedding and revealed she was divorced. They shared a kiss at the reception and received a round of applause from the actor's nosey family.

Is Miguel Dead?

Miguel (Jon Huertas) promised Rebecca (Moore) amid her battle with Alzheimer’s that he would remain by her side, but he has yet to be seen in flash-forwards at Kevin’s house. Nicky (Griffin Dunne) is instead sitting by Rebecca’s bed during her final hours.

Answer: Yes, Miguel died of heart failure, and Kevin's family moved into the house to help care for Rebecca.

Where Is Kate?

While Toby (Chris Sullivan) has already arrived at Kevin’s house in the flash-forward, Kate (Chrissy Metz) has not been seen in the future. Toby teased that “they” are on their way, so Kate and her future husband, Phillip (Chris Geere), could still be en route to say their goodbyes to Rebecca.  

Answer: Despite many theories about Kate's death, this turned out to be a simple matter of geography. Her family was the farthest away in California, so Phillip, Jack and Hailey were late arrivals. Kate, however, was on a trip to London.

She had to get a last-minute flight after Rebecca's health took a turn for the worst. She was still 12 hours away when Rebecca's aide said she wouldn't survive the night Luckily, Rebecca held on until Kate was there to say goodbye. , so she has the longest journey to Rebecca's bedside in Pennsylvania.

Who Is the Father of Deja’s Baby?

Deja (La Trice Harper) is pregnant in the flash-forward at Kevin’s house, though she has not announced the news to the family. Young Deja (Lyric Ross) and boyfriend Malik (Asante Blackk) took their relationship to the next level in a January episode, but only time will tell whether their teenage romance lasted. 

Answer: This Is Us kept fans on the edge of their seats until the end of the penultimate episode. A few hours after texting the father a picture of her positive pregnancy test, Malik slips into Deja's bedroom to tell her that he's so happy they're having a baby.

How Did Kate and Phillip Get Together?

Kate and Toby’s son, Jack (Blake Stadnik), revealed during a January episode that his parents’ marriage imploded after he was involved in an accident with the family’s smoker. Phillip was also seen consoling Kate as she opened up about her marital woes amid her long-distance relationship with Toby. However, there has been no explanation as to how Kate and Phillip end up walking down the aisle in the future.

Answer: Philip invited Kate to get drinks in Koreatown after she signed her divorce papers. They sang "Tubthumping" at karaoke and built a friendship before Philip asked her out on a date. When Kate has a minor freak-out during their date, Philip reveals that he is a widower. He and his wife were splitting up amid their fertility struggles, but she was killed in a car crash after she walked out on him. He wanted to be happy again — and he believed he could be happy with Kate.

What’s Going on With Randall’s Career?

Randall (Sterling K. Brown) is named a “Rising Star” in a headline seen in a flash-forward to Kate’s wedding day. Some fans have assumed the profile is about Randall running for president, but perhaps his career went in a different direction.

Answer: He's running for senate. He was approached to take over for a retiring senator, and he's getting national attention.
