Your cereal bowl is about to get a whole lot bluer! General Mills, the maker of Cheerios, announced on Wednesday, April 10, that a new version of the breakfast staple is expected to hit store shelves in the coming weeks – Blueberry Cheerios!
Per an update on the cereal brand’s Facebook page, the latest member of the Cheerios family is “inspired by the fresh taste of blueberry.” While the post doesn’t specify exactly when consumers can expect to spot the colorful food at the supermarket, it does note that the “delicious O’s” will make an appearance “just in time for spring.”
When a curious Facebook user asked for more details about the upcoming release, the company simply noted: “Blueberry Cheerios are rolling out across the country and will be coming soon to a store near you soon!”
The post also includes a photo of the box, which is bright blue, and features a bowl of some similarly hued cereal pieces. According to text on the container, these Cheerios are gluten-free and contain no artificial flavors or colors. In fact, the cereal’s nutrition label notes the unmistakable shade comes from a blueberry puree concentrate, as well as natural vegetable and fruit juice coloring agents. Furthermore, a 3/4 cup serving of the food has 110 calories.
And even though General Mills has a habit of creating seasonal, limited-edition cereal flavors that grace supermarket shelves for a brief time only to disappear in a few months time (RIP Peach Cheerios), that’s not the case this time around. Instead, fruit fans will be berry happy to know that, according to Today Food, this new offering, which will retail between $4 and $5 per box, will be added to Cheerios’ permanent lineup.
Other continuing varieties include Honey Nut Cheerios, Multi-Grain Cheerios and Chocolate Cheerios.
