Google has spoken! The search engine recently revealed its top 10 most searched recipes of 2018, and there were certainly a few surprises along the way.
Sure, the list featured cameos from American staples such as Snickerdoodle cookies and lasagna, which nabbed the tenth and eighth spots, respectively, but there were also some dishes that stood out. For example, as Delish noted, Brussels sprouts proved to be an overwhelmingly popular veggie dish, having placed in the ninth spot overall.
Another standout was beef stroganoff, which, somewhat surprisingly, was the fourth most Googled recipe of 2018. The noodle and beef-based dish, which originated in mid-19th-century Russia, has become increasingly popular in the states thanks to its versatility and simplicity. In fact, the comforting meal was most popular in states that experience plenty of cold weather, including Montana, Alaska and Wyoming.
However, the most surprising top recipe, which ranked No. 2 overall, had to be hummingbird food. Not to be confused with fruity hummingbird cake, hummingbird food referred to meals that could be given to actual hummingbirds, not humans. It appears Vermont, Maine and West Virginia were the most bird-friendly states.
