Aaron Rodgers was given the blessing of his wife, Brittani, to return for his final NFL season.
“I talked to the wife and she said, ‘You can do one more year,’” Rodgers, 42, told reporters at Pittsburgh Steelers training camp on Tuesday, July 28. “I said, ‘Well, we’ll see if it works out.’ And then it kind of all came together.”
Rodgers admitted he thought “last year might it,” but was inspired to return after the Steelers hired Mike McCarthy as their new head coach in January. McCarthy, 62, and Rodgers previously spent 13 years together with the Green Bay Packers.
While he’s committed to one more year, Rodgers was definitive that the upcoming 2026 season will be his last. “Zero debate,” he said on Tuesday. “Zero.”
Despite Rodgers’ insistence, Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf isn’t so sure we’re on the precipice of the quarterback’s swan song.
“I mean, people just say things at the beginning of the year, not knowing how a year could go,” Metcalf, 28, told reporters on Tuesday. “He may not even get hit or touched this year and may say, ‘Hey, let’s go out there and do another one.’ So, I mean, it just puts a weight off his back. He’s just out there playing free, enjoying possibly his last year with his teammates, with a couple of close friends that he’s made over the past two years.”
While Rodgers’ wife apparently acts as a sounding board off the field, fans still know next-to-nothing about her identity.
Rodgers revealed in June 2025 that he and Brittani got married “a couple months ago” — but since then, the quarterback has complained about the ongoing interest in his personal life.
“She didn’t sign up for this bulls***,” Rodgers said of his wife’s desire for privacy on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show in March. “She signed up for this because she loves me and supports me and wants to spend the rest of our lives together and start a family together. She didn’t sign up to be an out front social media WAG. She doesn’t want any of that bullshit. And I don’t either.”
He added, “The obsession is f***ing bizarre. That’s the only way to put it. The obsession is really bizarre.”
Rodgers admitted that only those in his “small circle” have been introduced to Brittani, whose identity remains unknown.
“The people that are in that circle know [Brittani],” he told McAfee, 39. “They’ve met her and they love her.”
