The mother of former Eden Prairie High School baseball player Drew Von Fisher remembered her late son on what would have been his 19th birthday.
“Happy 19th birthday Drew in Heaven!” Michele Fisher wrote via Facebook on Wednesday, August 12. “Words I never thought I’d have to say! Heartbroken doesn’t cover it! I am so proud of the man you were and your faith in God!”
She continued, “Today I finally get to see you but have to say goodbye on [the] same date I got to hold you to say our first in person hello! I don’t understand how this can be FOREVER 18! I LOVE YOU AND WANT YOU BACK!!!”
Drew died on Sunday, August 10, after he was struck by another vehicle while exiting his car on Interstate 94, according to Minnesota State Patrol.
Police said Drew’s 2005 Ford Focus initially struck a crash barrier separating the main traffic lanes from the exit lanes. When he got out of his car, he was fatally hit by a 21-year-old driving a 2021 Tesla Model 3. The driver of the Tesla and his 22-year-old passenger were not injured.
Authorities do not believe alcohol was a factor in Drew crashing his car.
“Drew was a beloved son, grandson, nephew, cousin, godson, and friend, and so much more to the people who knew and loved him,” a GoFundMe arranged in his honor reads. “His life was far too short, and his loss has left his family and everyone who knew him devastated.”
The page adds, “To anyone who knew Drew, you know how much his faith, friends, and family meant to him. He was the most caring, thoughtful, generous, and funny person. He was always there to lend a helping hand and brighten your day with a classic Drew smile.”
Donations from the fundraiser will help Michele “with the unexpected funeral and memorial expenses that come with such a heartbreaking loss.”
“No family should have to worry about the financial burden of saying goodbye to their loved one while they are grieving,” the GoFundMe states. “Any and all donations will go directly to Drew’s mom to cover any expenses during this difficult time. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will help ease some of the financial stress and allow Drew’s family to focus on honoring his life and supporting one another during this incredibly difficult time.”
In his obituary, Drew – who graduated from Eden Prairie High in 2025 – is remembered as somebody “with a caring heart and generous spirit that moved all who knew him.”
“Drew was known for the warmth of his smile, which could brighten even the sourest of days,” the obituary added. “He will be remembered for the promise he held and the countless ways he improved the lives of others in the time he had. Whether through an always-offered helping hand or something as simple as a moment of laughter, he made an impact that reached far beyond what he may have realized.”
