Former BYU football star Curtis Brown and his wife, Kim, are mourning the loss of their 2-year-old son, Haze, who died in a drowning accident earlier this week.
“The Brown family has experienced an unimaginable loss,” a GoFundMe in support of the family reads. “Kim and Curtis recently lost their miracle baby, Haze, in a tragic drowning accident. No words can ease the heartbreak they are facing as they grieve the loss of their precious son.”
Haze died on July 26 after drowning in the family’s swimming pool in Clovis, California, according to the New York Post.
A family member found Haze unresponsive in the pool and called 911. First responders attempted to revive Haze with CPR, but were unsuccessful.
The toddler was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police have indicated that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Haze’s death.
“It’s an extremely unfortunate situation,” Clovis Police Department spokesman Ty Wood said in a statement. “Adults should never let children swim unsupervised and should always learn CPR and keep safety and rescue equipment nearby.”
Curtis, 42, and Kim are also parents to 13-year-old triplets Julie, Cruze and Kash and son Trey, 12. Curtis played running back at BYU from 2002 to 2006, finishing his collegiate career as the leading rusher in school history.
Shortly after Haze was born in July 2024, Kim detailed the complications she experienced during childbirth.
“My c section didn’t quite go as planned this time around,” she shared via Instagram. “I had a great experience with Trey 10 years ago so I was expecting something similar. Not so much… Long story short, my spinal didn’t really work on my right side. I could still move my leg and felt like I was on FIRE🔥!!”
She continued, “Curtis could tell immediately something was way different. They tried giving me some Morphine, Fentanyl, Nitrous Oxide, a local anesthetic but nothing was really helping. They wanted to knock me out but I knew he was close to being born and I didn’t want to miss everything 😭 so I tried to power through. It was rough. But he’s here and healthy! 🥰.”
The GoFundMe set up in the family’s honor has raised over $86,000 at the time of publication.
