Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton provided a hopeful update about his condition after suffering a brutal ankle injury on Sunday, October 4, in a game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
“God is great!! 🙏🏾,” Thornton, 26, posted via his Instagram Story on Wednesday, October 7.
The Chiefs star dislocated his left ankle and suffered ligament damage on Sunday after being tackled by Raiders safety Treydan Stukes following a 55-yard pass completion. He was eventually carted off the field and later spotted using crutches to leave Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium.
Thornton was scheduled to undergo surgery this week, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, though it’s unclear if Thoronton’s post came after the surgery was completed.
If all goes according to plan, the Chiefs expect to have Thornton back in 12 to 16 weeks.
The Chiefs defeated the Raiders, 30-27, improving their record to a perfect 4-0 on the season.
“Love this team! 4-0 baby! I’ll be back stronger & better 🙏🏾🕺🏽 #ChiefsKingdom,” Thornton posted via X the day after the injury.

He also took to Instagram, writing, “You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step! 🕺🏽🙏🏾”
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes acknowledged that Thorton’s injury “sucks,” but noted it came “on a big play for us.”
“It helped us go get the win. It’s tough because those guys put in so much work. I was in that spot last year,” Mahomes, 31, told reporters on Sunday, referencing his season-ending leg injury from last year. “One play can change your season. You hope for the best, but at the same time, you want to show him support. I know how it is when you’re in that position, and it’s like the world is closing in on you. He’s one of the best teammates I’ve ever had.”
Before his injury, Thornton had caught two touchdown passes and accumulated 111 receiving yards.
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce addressed Thornton’s injury on his “New Heights” podcast on Wednesday, October 7, saying everybody “loves Tyquan.”
“The guy just shows up every single day with his construction hat on ready to go … ready to put in the time and the effort that’s needed to have the success that he’s having,” Kelce, 37, said. “We’re 4-0. He’s playing unbelievable. He’s got Pat Mahomes’ trust. He’s got the coaches’ trust, and then to have something like this happen on such a big play in the game, it sucks, man.”
Kelce added, “You just hate to see it happen to such a good guy.”
