After James Talarico’s stunning victory in the Texas Senate race, Danica Patrick was not revving her engines about his affinity for a RuPaul’s Drag Race fan favorite.
Patrick, 44, took to social media in the aftermath of Talarico’s steamroll over Ken Paxton and resurfaced a clip from the campaign when Talarico was asked, “Who’s your favorite drag queen in Texas?”
“Oh gosh, probably Alyssa Edwards,” Talarico, 37, said at the time.
Patrick posted the clip to her Instagram Story on Wednesday, November 4, writing, “Seriously. 🤦🏻♀️.”
Edwards, 46, a native of Mesquite, Texas, appeared on season 5 of RuPaul’s Drag Race and returned to the franchise for season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.
During the Senate campaign, Paxton, 63, used the clip of Talarico referencing Edwards in an attack ad. When Paxton posted the ad on social media, he wrote, “Meet Alyssa Edwards: James Talarico’s favorite sick and twisted drag queen.”
Edwards responded to the Paxton ad with an impassioned letter shared via social media.
“I’m not sure I fully understand your motive or intention in attempting to disparage my name, my character, or my reputation,” Edwards wrote. “But I do know this: the way we choose to speak about others often says far more about our own character than it ever will about theirs.”
She added, “My life may look different from yours, but difference does not diminish character, faith, service, or a person’s ability to positively contribute to their community. Texas is big enough for all of us.”
Talarico soundly defeated Paxton on Tuesday, November 3, marking the first time a Democrat has won a United States Senate seat in Texas since 1988.
Since retiring from her professional racing career, Patrick has attempted to become a prominent name in conservative politics.
Last month, Patrick gushed about spending a day with President Donald Trump on board Air Force One.
“He is so easy to talk to and SO fun to listen to!” Patrick shared via Instagram. “He’s a great story teller… funny and obviously interesting. He is also very curious what your opinion is pertaining to any topic. And of course he is really into sports, which I love!”
She added, “There will never be another Donald J. Trump! He not only loves his country deeply but delivers intelligence, leadership, entertainment and humor all day long. Our job was not done with the election 2 years ago. Big shifts take time and we have to keep showing up! Let’s help him and his amazing staff make the most of the last half of his presidency by getting out there and voting in 2 weeks!”
Thanks in part to Talarico’s win on Tuesday, the Democrats took control of both the House and Senate.
